Raleigh Bridge Refurbish Celebration 5th OCT

The historic Raleigh Bridge on Keevers Drive, underwent a significant $3.3 million facelift. The rehabilitation work, involved removing lead-based paint, repairing corrosion, and a repaint. The bridge, originally opened in 1935, to connect Repton and Raleigh, including areas of Urunga, Bellingen, and Mylestom. The re-opening was a celebration put on for the community, a ribbon was cut by our local Mel Pavey MP for roads and transport.

Waraaday Wood Duck Sculpture for Uncle Tom Kelly on Hungry Head Rd Urunga

Officially unveiled yesterday, the wood duck represents the totem of the late Uncle Thomas Kelly, an Aboriginal Gumbaynggirr Elder , a local to whom this honourable legacy is representing.

Re-purposed bridge timber signifies Uncle Tom’s connection to country and symbolises the many bridges he forged within the Bellinger community.
Artists of this sculpture are Nick Warfield, Adrienne Hmelnitsky and Brentyn Lugnan.
